THE “HA GIANG LOOP”
MOTORBIKE TOUR – 3 DAYS – WITH DRIVER
⚠️Your comfort and safety are important! ⚠️
Some agencies in Hanoi and Ha Giang offer tours “giá rẻ” (low-cost). In Vietnam, as everywhere, quality comes at a price! Personally, I only organize small groups with recent, well-maintained 150cc motorcycles. Additionally, you will have a private room in each accommodation. Your comfort and safety are important!
However, if you wish, it is possible to choose dormitory accommodation, which is cheaper than a private room.
Overview of the route
Through this 3-day itinerary, you will discover the beauty and authenticity of the Ha Giang region. The program includes stunning panoramic views of the karst mountains and the exploration of local minority cultures. It’s one of the most beautiful routes in Vietnam!
👉 Map of the route
Day 1 ❤️ BREAKFAST TOGETHER ❤️
– Ha Giang [Hà Giang]
– Quan Ba [Quản Bạ]
– Heaven’s Gate [Cổng trời]
– Lung Tam [Lùng Tám]
– Yen Minh [Yên Minh]
– Sa Phin [Sà Phìn]
– Dong Van [Đồng Văn]
We’ll meet around 8:00 AM to enjoy breakfast together at an authentic restaurant in the heart of Hà Giang, with the local people. On the menu: a bowl of Pho [Phở] or a plate of Banh Cuon [Bánh Cuốn], a traditional Vietnamese dish often eaten for breakfast. It consists of thin, steamed rice pancakes filled with minced pork, fried shallots, and black mushrooms. We will leave the city around 9:00 AM heading towards the Quan Ba Pass, also known as the “Heaven’s Gate.” The winding road around the pass reveals a spectacular landscape of dozens of granite peaks, like a terrestrial Halong Bay. At the summit, at an altitude of 1,500
meters (make sure to bring a sweater! 🧥), you’ll discover a magnificent view of the village of Tam Son [Tam Sơn] and the two famous twin mountains [Núi đôi Cô Tiên]. We will then continue our journey to the small village of Quan Ba, where we will stop for lunch. Next, we will explore a unique craft in the Ha Giang province: the entirely handmade production of traditional clothing and accessories by members of the Hmong community. In Lung Tam, you will have the chance to observe women preparing, dyeing, and weaving linen using
ancestral methods. Afterward, we will hit the road again towards the small town of Yen Minh, and then to Sa Phin, where we will make a stop to explore the ancient palace of the Hmong King [Dinh Vua Mèo]. In the late afternoon, we’ll head to Dong Van to spend the evening and night with a local family, just a few kilometers from the Chinese border.
Day 2
– Dong Van [Đồng Văn] 🥥 VISIT TO THE MARKET POSSIBLE ON SUNDAY
– Dong Van Karst Plateau [Cao nguyên đá Đồng Văn] 🌟 UNESCO SITE 🌟
– Ma Pi Leng Pass [Đèo Mã Pí Lèng]
– Meo Vac [Mèo Vạc] 🥥 VISIT TO THE MARKET POSSIBLE ON SUNDAY
– Mau Due [Mậu Duệ]
– Ngoc Long [Ngọc Long]
– Du Gia [Du Già]
We will hit the road again around 9:00 AM to cross the Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark, with its towering mountains and deep canyons. We will head towards Meo Vac, taking the Ma Pi Leng Pass, which stretches about twenty kilometers between 1,200 and 1,600 meters in altitude. The landscapes here are truly spectacular! 🤩 We will continue our journey towards the village of Mau Due, located at the foot of the mountain in a lush green valley. We will wind our way through untamed nature, with preserved forests and rocky mountains. Along the way, we will also see countless terraced rice fields 🌾 and meet local
communities. We will then head towards Du Gia, one of the most beautiful spots (in my opinion! 😊) in the Ha Giang region. On the way, we will stop at Ngoc Long, a small village off the beaten tourist tracks, where we will board a traditional bamboo boat to sail along a beautiful river surrounded by hills and dense forests. Afterward, we will have dinner and spend the night with a local family… in a stilt house.
Day 3
– Du Gia [Du Già] 🥥 VISIT TO THE MARKET POSSIBLE ON SATURDAY
– Du Gia Waterfall [Thác Du Già]
– Lung Ho [Lũng Hồ] 🥥 VISIT TO THE MARKET POSSIBLE ON SUNDAY
– Lung Pu Thuan Hoa Waterfall [Thác Nước Lũng Pù Thuận Hòa]
– Ha Giang [Hà Giang]
Like previous mornings, we will set off around 9:00 AM for the final day of our itinerary. Our first stop will be the Du Gia Waterfall, a charming and increasingly popular site in recent years. From there, we’ll continue our journey towards the small village of Lung Ho, a hidden gem rarely visited by tourists and surrounded by majestic mountains. After lunch, we’ll visit the Lung Pu Thuan Hoa Waterfall, a breathtaking cascade framed by lush green hills, terraced rice fields, and pristine nature. Be sure to bring your swimsuit for a refreshing dip!🩳👙.Finally, we’ll return to Ha Giang, where we’ll pause for a photo at the iconic “Kilometer Zero” marker, which marks the starting (or ending!) point of adventures in the
Ha Giang region. By around 4:30 PM, we’ll arrive in the city center, where you can catch a bus to your next destination (Sapa? Hanoi?).
“An Toàn Là Trên Hết !” – Safety first!
The roads in Vietnam (especially in the Ha Giang region) can be in poor condition, making driving difficult and dangerous. It’s important to drive carefully, maintain reasonable speeds, and stay alert at all times. As for me, I follow the Vietnamese motto “An Toàn Là Trên Hết!” (Safety First!) 💚.

❤️ Visitor Reviews ❤️
For many years, I worked as an English teacher in Sapa, Hanoi, and Saigon. Three years ago, I began traveling to many beautiful places across Vietnam, which inspired me to share Vietnamese culture with people from around the world. Since September 2024, I’ve been working in Ha Giang with a few friends. To allow visitors to leave reviews of the tours we’ve done together (100% authentic, guaranteed!), I created a TripAdvisor page that you can check out here:
